Supta Padangusthasana (Reclined Big Toe Pose)
The Purna Yoga Hip Series sequence includes six directions of movement in the hip joints. It is therapeutic for low back pain, SI joint dysfunction, and sciatica. The sequence starts with Supta Padangusthasana.
Bring a strap around the bottom of your right foot along the arch. Straighten your right leg. If left leg does not easily straighten you can also keep the left knee bent with the sole of the foot flat to the floor. Hold one end of the strap in each hand and bring your shoulders down to the floor. Lift both kneecaps and engage the quadriceps. Left second toe points straight up, outer right hip moves away from your head. 5-10 breaths. Both sides.
*For sciatica point and flex lifted foot*
- Stretches hamstrings while protecting the low back (safest stretch for hamstrings if you have low back pain)
- Stretches hips and calves
- Relieves sciatica and low back discomfort
